• Carlsbad was originally founded as a town called Eddy in 1888. From the start, the Southeastern region of New Mexico, and particularly Carlsbad, has been well-documented through the lens of multiple photographers.

Our archive, Near Loving’s Bend, contains 20,000+ photos and offers a rare look into a community formed upon the wilderness frontier of Southeastern New Mexico.

Founded in 1970, SENMHS seeks to foster the education and appreciation of Southeastern New Mexico through our photo archives, collections, and stewardship efforts.

Pending a permanent public facility for our collections, we are accepting new collections and artifacts on a limited and cautious basis. We work directly with our Board Members and Carlsbad Museum for all donation inquiries.
